Yellow Quinoa | Turmeric Quinoa

August 30, 2021 by Lovely Lentils

The side dish that works with so many cuisines. This Turmeric Quinoa works well with Indian food, for falafal night or with a sheet pan of roasted veggies. It is a twist on just cooking plain rice or quinoa on the side of a main dish. The turmeric and other spices add a bit more flavor to complete your meals.

Notes on the ingredients for Turmeric Quinoa:

Quinoa: White or red quinoa should be fine. You can probably make this dish with rice instead of quinoa but I have not tried the proportions of the all of the ingredients so I cannot guarantee how it will come out. Will try it and add a link to this recipe soon! Please sign up for my newsletter and follow me on Instagram for updates. (@lovely.lentils on Instagram).

Turmeric: Use ground turmeric and use the full amount. Do not use less but a little more should be fine.

Garlic Powder: You can probably use a similar amount of fresh minced garlic for a stronger garlic flavor but the results will be a bit different. Garlic powder and garlic cloves are not exact substitutes and different flavor elements to recipes. However, adding fresh garlic to a savory recipe is usually never wrong so add some if that is what you have.

Onion Powder: Again, like the garlic powder, onion powder also adds a different flavor element to recipes than fresh chopped onion. If you want to add fresh chopped onion instead, the proportions of spices may be a bit different. If you do not have onion powder, skip it or add a 1/2 tsp extra garlic powder.

Salt: Add a bit more than recipe if that is to your taste.

Olive Oil: Olive oil always makes everything taste better and goes with different cuisines.
